Just received my new x00s, the new version with the detachable cable. Previous  Introducing the TR-X00 (the “R†stands for “removable†): everything you loved about the TH-X00, now with a detachable cable for greater flexibility. The build quality feels 1st class minus the hinges and my pair has a custom removable cable making them the TR X00 version. Highly Highly recommended.

One thing you don't get, kind of surprisingly given the TH-900's reputation, is more bass. The X00's I've personally listened to Mahogany, Emu Purpleheart, and Ebony give you more bass for your buck. The difference is mostly in the pads which are wider open on the TH900 whereas part of the driver is covered on the TH/TR-X00 phones. The Fostex TR-X00 Ebony edition features a bass-focused balanced signature that is definitely warm, enjoyable and caters to a more consumer-style signature, while still retaining some good mid-range coherency.
